t’s fall ya’ll... and in feng shui it’s metal season.
The metal element is associated with contraction and completion.
It’s the element to tap into when you want to organize, declutter and clean things up. It’s also the element associated with beauty and discernment.
For many of us, fall is the time of year when we clean up our surroundings, both inside and out. Harvest our veggies, plant bulbs for the spring and put our gardens to bed for the winter.
Inside we often start to look at what we can organize and do some decluttering. Maybe even plan some indoor winter projects.
If you are feeling all these vibes, that’s why... it’s in the air!
If you want to embrace this energy more, invite in the metal element into your home. The colours white, grey, gold, sliver. Round or arch shapes and anything made of metal (think candle sticks, vases, etc.)
And getting out into nature you’ll naturally see the metal element at play as the plants complete the growing season and the animals start to prepare for winter.
Embracing elemental living can help us feel more at ease and in tuned with the bigger natural world. Something I think we all crave right now.
Roger and I spent a good part of the Labour Day weekend splitting and stacking wood at the cabin. The metal element literally in action with the metal of the axe and wood splitter breaking apart the junks of wood.
We are ready for the winter… hopefully many winters with the amount of wood that’s there! My Dad ordered it months before he passed… it’s like he knew we’d need an abundance for the next couple of years.

Our homes are an important part of our wellness journey.
I’ll be sharing a deeper level of feng shui wisdom and tips in my workshop on Wednesday night (Sept 20th) but here are three areas you can look at right now:
🛏️ Your bedroom – the space in your home that is your most intimate. It’s the place where you rest and restore. How do you feel about your bedroom? Are there any adjustments you can make for it to feel more supportive to you?
🚪Your front entry way – both inside and out. As a place you pass through many times in your day, how does it feel as you both approach your front door and then as you enter? Is there anything you can do to make you enjoy that journey?
🥙 Your stovetop – in feng shui it represents both health and wealth. Use all your burners and give them a nice cleaning.
Wellness looks different for every person but the wisdom of feng shui can be applied by any and all.

Long post ahead! I do a lot of thinking on my lo

Long post ahead!
I do a lot of thinking on my long runs.
This morning I decided to try to listen to a podcast with my new wireless ear buds, but they weren’t charged up. Duh. So my thoughts kept me company.
I have been drawn to the similarities of training for this marathon and living with new grief. These realizations have helped me a lot.
#1. Try to focus on the day or run that’s in front of you. Thinking big picture (all the long runs, all the holidays) can feel overwhelming so bringing your mind back to where you are at any given moment helps things feel more manageable.
#2. Accept things for how they are. Some days I think a run is going to be easy but it ends up being hard and sometimes what I anticipate will be hard really isn’t. Grief is like that too. I had thought that going berry picking without my dad would be hard to handle but it wasn’t too bad. Cutting a pizza with a pizza cutter that my dad came home one day with for Roger set me off on a good long cry.
#3. There are no short cuts. If I take a short cut on a run I have to make up the distance somewhere. And with grief… there is no way around it. It is part of my life now and there is no way to short cut it. I can definitely do things to make running and grief a bit easier, the pain vs suffering idea (give that a google if you are not familiar with it) but a quote I always come back to is “there is no way around, only through”.
And finally…
#4. Rest, rest and more rest. Marathon training and living with fresh grief can be both mentally and physically tiring. Rest has been a saviour for me.
When my dad passed I almost bailed on this marathon training because I really didn’t feel up for it. One of the reasons I didn’t bail was I knew that my dad would be adamant I do it, he was very intent on wanting us to keep on living. And it has turned out to be one of the best decisions I made.
And finally… @coffeeshopguynl only gets a candid at the end of this reel but there will be another montage of both of us coming in the future. We do a lot of running separately but thankfully the long runs together.
